A Brief Overview of the
Cenovus Lima Refining Facility
Industrial Pump & Equipment began in the 1950s as a direct factory sales office for Milton Roy Co. and grew quickly from there. In 1961, Industrial Pump & Equipment became the exclusive representative for Sundyne pumps and compressors in Ohio. In 1967, we signed on to be the exclusive representative for Badger Meter products in Ohio.
Oil refining has been a fixture in Lima, Ohio for nearly 150 years after Standard Oil established a refinery in 1886 following the discovery of large quantities of oil throughout the region. Between 1886 and 1900, this refinery was the world’s largest production site, yielding more than 190 million barrels.
The breakup of Standard Oil in 1911 spawned several regional oil refining companies, one of which was Standard Oil of Ohio (Sohio). Sohio continued to operate the Lima refinery, undergoing a rebrand to Sohio Lima Refining in 1936. Sohio was purchased by BP in 1986, and Clark Oil purchased the Lima refinery from BP in 1998.
Clark Oil rebranded itself as Premcor in 2000 and was acquired by the Valero Energy Corporation in 2005. The Lima refinery was sold to Husky Energy in 2007, and, in 2021, Husky Energy was purchased by Cenovus Energy. The Lima refinery remains one of the company’s flagship refineries.
